A blink of the eye

That's just how fast it happens.  One minute they are a cuddly little newborn, and then you blink your eyes and they are turning 5!  "A whole hand" as Mary McLean says.
I'm having a hard time with it.  Even as I type it, I'm tearing up.  I always have a hard time letting go.  I was a basket case when Andrew graduated from preschool, and now that it's about to happen again, I'm losing my mind with even the mention of graduation at the end of the year.

Mary McLean is such a blessing in our lives.  This girl is smart too.  Like crazy-smart!  She is starting to learn sight words, I feel she'll be reading by the end of the year.  She's also a bit of a math whiz!  She loves to do math!  She got a notebook for her birthday from a dear neighbor friend, and she loves to sit there and write out math equations.  She has a whole 2 pages full of things like: 5+5=10, 2+5=7, 8+8=16, and so forth.  She is so ready to go to kindergarten, it's crazy.  She thinks that now that she's 5, she should be going, like NOW!  She keeps saying things like, "I'm 5 now, and I know math, I'm ready to go to kindergarten."  Whoa.  Slow down there, sunshine.  I'm having a hard enough time with you just turning 5, you're going to have to wait about 9 more months before ripping my heart out again!

We celebrated her birthday before school Wednesday morning, with some cards and a few gifts.  She was most excited about the certificate saying I was taking her and Mackenzie to see "Tangled" when it comes out this week.  She has been talking about this movie non-stop since hearing about it over a month ago!
I'll do a party re-cap in the next post.
