My sweet girl has been pretty sick. She started complaining of a headache at lunch on Sunday. We ran a few errands and she fell asleep in the car. I suspected it was maybe from all the excitement on Saturday. We went to the mall and she sat curled up in the stroller the whole time we were there (maybe 20 minutes). When we got back to the car to go home, she started crying that her head and stomach were hurting really bad and she felt like she was going to throw up. We hurried home and took her upstairs to bed. I laid down with her for a few mintues, and thought she felt a little warm so I went to find a thermometer. By the time I found it, she was asleep, so I took her temp under her arm, 101.5. I left her sleeping and went about doing some things around the house. She woke up about 45 minutes later asking for her Leapster to play. I brought it to her and then went and took a little nap myself. When I got up, she was waking up too. I asked how she was feeling and she said she was feeling a little better. She didn't seem as warm as before, so I asked if she still wanted to play in the sprinkler (she had been asking all week). She got her bathing suit on and came outside and ran around for about 5-10 minutes before laying down on her towel and sheilding her face. I kept asking her if she was alright, she said yes, and that she didn't have sunglasses, and the sun was hurting her eyes which was why she was covering her eyes. I finally talked her into going back inside to change clothes and lie down. She started crying again when she was changing saying that her stomach hurt again. She curled up on the couch and I took her temp again, 102.9. I made her take some tylenol and she fell asleep again while I called the on-call nurse. The nurse called back about an hour later and she had just woken up and was playing games with Emma in the playroom, she still felt warm, but was interacting alright, just seemed tired. The nurse thought I should take her in to see the dr. Marc and I were deciding whether to go with Urgent Care or ER, we finally decided that since she wasn't complaining about anything hurting anymore, we would just go to Urgent Care. I took her temp again and it was 102.5. I loaded her up in the car and drove over to Ft Mill UC. They took a urine sample and chest xray and came back with a UTI as she had some blood and proteins in her urine. They wrote her a script for Bactrim and sent us along.
By the time we got home she was very tired, so we put her to bed. She asked me if I would come back and sleep with her and I said I would if she wanted me to. I ended up falling asleep in my room, but woke up around 12:45 and went into get in bed with Mary Mac. When I did she was waking up and all of a sudden was about to throw up. I rushed her to the bathroom and she thankfully made it to the toilet in time. I wiped her off with a damp cloth and put her back in bed. She was on fire, so I went to get the thermometer again along with some water for her. I took her temp and it was 104.9!!! I stayed up for a while and she dozed on and off. I finally went back to sleep around 2:30 and we slept until 6:30. I took her temp when we got up and it was around 103.7. She mostly laid on the couch while Emma and I got dressed.
We took Emma to school and Mary Mac was miserable. I found out that a little boy in her class had the flu, so I decided I should probably take her back to the dr. We came home and she rested some more and I made another appointment for her around 11. We got to the drs office and she was really nauseous and didn't want me to touch her. When we got back to a room, the nurse took her temp and it was 103.2. She fell asleep on the table while we waited for the dr to come in. The dr came in and took a history about all that had gone on in the past 24 hours along with pulling up her UTI history. She called down to the Urgent care to see if they had sent the urine sample off to be cultured and while we waited the did a finger stick. She came back in a little bit later and said that her white blood cell count was high so that probably indicated a kidney infection and not just a uti. She wanted to get another urine sample (since they hadn't sent it to be cultured from the night before) and also some more blood for a blood culture to make sure there are no bacteria in her bloodstream. Poor Mary Mac had hardly been able to drink any water so I tried forcing her water down to try and get her to produce a sample, but no such luck. It was almost time for us to get Emma, so they gave us a sample cup to take with us and told us to come back this afternoon for the urine sample and blood draw. She also wanted to give her an injection of some stronger antibiotics.
We went and got Emma taken care of (thank you to my friend Jenifer), and Andrew taken care of (thank you Joe and Amy), and went back to the doctor. Amy also gave us some watermelon to try and get her to eat to produce some urine. She ate a few pieces and drank most of her water and finally got a small sample out shortly after we got to the doctor's office. We got called back to a room again and she fell asleep for a few minutes on the table. Then the nurses came in to get the blood draw and give her the antibiotic injections. Yes, I said injections. Plural. The dosage was too high to go into just one muscle, so they had two nurses inject them (one in each butt cheek) at the same time. Bless her poor heart she was crying so hard, which of course made me cry with her! I hate seeing her so miserable! We had to wait for 30 minutes to make sure she didn't have any adverse reaction at the injection site, and then we were sent on our way. We have to go back tomorrow afternoon to be re-evaluated and see if she needs another injection (please pray that she doesn't), or if she can just go back to the Bactrim. She has mostly been sleeping since we got home, but just woke up and asked for some more watermelon to eat.
Tomorrow is my last day at school with kids, so my mom is thankfully coming up to stay with Mary McLean. Please also pray that she is well enough to go to her graduation on Wednesday! She would be so upset to miss out!

Poor baby!!!! That sounds awful!!! Lexi had a UTI as a baby and had that crazy-high fever, was hospitalized for 3 days. I know MM has had lots of these, but this sounds so miserable. I'll be praying for her to get well quickly so she can participate on Wednesday!
We're praying that poor Mary Mac will be healed and back to her old self in no time!
