Mary McLean's first day

Today was Mary Mac's first day of preschool. She has been so excited, and couldn't wait to get to school to play with her "friends" and use her princess lunch bag. I was sad to see her go, but was looking forward to the one on one time with Emma. (Too bad Emma slept the majority of the time MM was at school) ;) I think Mary Mac starting preschool was harder for me than when Andrew did, not because I love her any more, but Mary Mac and I have a different relationship than Andrew and I did. With Andrew, he had been at daycare up until he was almost 2 1/2, so I was used to sending him off to "school" and he was used to being away from me. He was never super attached to me, like Mary Mac was. Mary McLean and I have been together since day one and I think she always made me feel like she "needed" me more than Andrew did. Don't get me wrong, Andrew had his moments where he wanted or needed me, but there was never a time where you would have considered him a "Mamma's boy."

When we got to school, Mary Mac walked right in and made herself at home. She found some paper and crayons to color with and sat right down. She made a few scribbles and held it up to me and said she wanted me to take it to my house. I told her I would get it later, she looked right at me and said, "Okay, bye Mommy!" then turned right around and went back to her coloring. Not even a second glance.

I picked her up this afternoon and she was full of smiles and said she had fun, and couldn't wait to go back tomorrow!

On another note, Andrew found out at school on Friday who his teacher was. When we got there to drop him off, they had corraled all the kindergarteners in the gym and gave them each a Berryhill T-Shirt. Then, each teacher called the names for their classes. Andrew got Mrs. Woolbright, and I was so excited. This is the teacher that Marc and I were hoping he would get! After they had lined up in their new classes they left the gym and proceeded into a hallway full of applause and cheers. All the students in the school 1st through 5th grade had lined up and were welcoming the new kindergarteners to their new school! This is also how they send the 5th graders off at the end of the year. It was so sweet and of course at that moment, I started crying, I think it was the relief of waiting to find out who his teacher was going to be and having all the new school stress behind me! I can't believe my sweet boy is in kindergarten!

Marianne, your children are SO PRECIOUS!!! I can't believe Andrew is in "big kindergarten"!! That's the age I teach!!! I remember when YOU were that age! And, Mary Mac...she looks so cute waiting with her book bag on her back...I especially love the black and white from behind! That could win a photography contest!! Love, Debbie (Goodman)

You have been doing a lot of updating since I checked last! Love all the new pictures of the school kids and of Emma in her Tiger outfit (perhaps you should get rid of it though, it obviously didn't bring us luck! j/k). Hope to see you guys in Clemson soon! MB
