Well, Emma is now 17 months. Seriously, how is that possible? I'm sure most of you have seen or even heard about the young boy on the Discovery Channel, Archie. He was 2 1/2 and 84 pounds. Well, I think Emma is trying to give him a run for his money. She is so heavy! She weighs just under 2 lbs less than her older sister (who is almost 2 years older mind you).
I took Emma to the cardiologist last Thursday to have her murmur checked out (everything was fine, so no worries there), and she weighed in at 29.5 lbs! Will this child ever stop growing? Everyone keeps telling me, Andrew was big too, and they're right, Andrew was big, but at 18 months, he was only 28 lbs. He didn't reach 29.5 until age 2. So I stand by my theory that Emma is the world's largest 17 month old. Discovery channel will be calling soon, I'm sure.
While I poke fun at her weight, it really is a concern for me. I will be talking with the doctor again next month to see what we can do. I don't think it's what she eats because she eats the same things that her brother and sister do. We do try and be fairly healthy with our meals. She only snacks in the morning, when I have my morning snack, and even then it's either Cheerios, or pretzels. Once in a blue moon she may get Goldfish. She isn't on whole milk anymore, just 2%, and she only drinks juice 2 or 3 times/week. I just don't understand where all the poundage is coming from.
Emma is still a joy to be around. She is able to communicate more and more every day, and can understand simple questions. She loves her brother and sister and gets very excited when it's time to pick them up from school, when I say, "It's time to go get Mary Mac/Andrew" she drops whatever she's doing and runs to the door squealing.
She has also picked up some unfavorable actions from her brother and sister. She loves to say things are "mine!" When Campbell is here, if she picks up something to play with, Emma will march herself over to her, grab it from her and say, "Mine!" Poor Campbell just looks at her and then moves on to something else, I'm trying to teach her about sharing, but how do you teach that to a 17 month old. I know 3 year olds that are still struggling with that concept.
I can't wait to see what Emma's weight is up to at her 18 month check up. Surely she will have slowed down. ;)
