So much for that...

Well, it's safe to say that I will not be receiving any "Mother-of-the-Year" nominations.

When Andrew started school all he wanted to do was ride the bus. At first I was adamant that it wasn't going to happen. Kindergartners should not be on the bus with 5th graders. Well, the closer it got to the first day of school, the more I started to cave. Actually having him ride the bus home in the afternoons would be easier. MM would get out of preschool at 1:00, Andrew's school ended at 1:45. Too long between pick ups to stay in the car, but not long enough apart to constitute having to load 3 kids in the car twice (I was keeping another kid at the time). So I signed him up to ride the bus home in the afternoons. I got the bus assignment letter in the mail and his bus stop was 3 blocks away! WHAT!??? They expect my baby boy to walk by himself all the way home, no thank you. I called and tried to have the bus stop changed to no avail. So every day, we have walked up to the bus stop or driven up there (on really hot, cold, or rainy days) to pick Andrew up.

Today I was in "cleaning mode" I was just sweeping up the kitchen when I heard a knock on the door. "Well who in the world could that be?" I thought. Then I looked at my watch....oh no...2:10. We pick him up at 2:05! I had missed picking him up from the bus stop. He was here and of course he was fine. I told him how sorry I was and that I had lost track of time, hadn't even looked at the clock. He looked at me dead on and said, "Mom, I'm 6 years old. You don't have to look at the clock anymore. I'm a big boy now."

So, there go my hopes of my MOY award- right out the window. Can't believe I messed that up already...it's only January!

LOL :) At least he made it home safely. It could have been worse, I have a friend that forgot about the bus stop and she wasn't even home! Her kindergartener went knocking on neighbors' doors! Talk about feeling awful....

I'm so glad you wrote this! Jacob takes the bus home from school too. Our bus stop is about 3 blocks away and I pick Jacob up every afternoon as well. Monday he told me that it was time that he walked home by himself. What? He comes in the door and yells,"I'm home!" I think he feels like Daddy coming home from a long day of work. It is too cute!
