Valentines at the beach

On Friday afternoon we loaded up the car, picked Andrew up from the bus stop, and set out for Pawleys Island. We went and stayed with GUD (GUD=Great Uncle David) for the weekend. We had not been down to visit him since before Emma was born, so Mary McLean didn't even remember his house, she thought he was supposed to be at the beach house we rent each summer. ;) We had a great time visiting and just getting away.

We got up Saturday morning and GUD fixed us a yummy breakfast of omelets, grits, and bacon. After the kids had opened their Valentine's we got dressed and since it was raining, headed off to the outlets in North Myrtle. We found some really cute things and came back and relaxed for the rest of the evening.

On Sunday we got up and dressed and headed over to Huntington Beach so the kids could at least get out and run around and dig in the sand before leaving to head back to Charlotte. They were in hog heaven. If only it hadn't been so bloody cold! The wind was quite chilly, so we didn't stay long. Before leaving Huntington, we drove over so the kids could see the castle (Atalaya). We just drove by since it wasn't open, but then that started Andrew's battery of questions. This kid loves history and I'm so glad we have my uncle in the family to explain it all to him because I haven't got a clue. Andrew kept asking where the lady was that owned the "castle" and my uncle was telling him that she had died a long time ago and she had owned all this land. "What land?" "How did she die?" "I want to see where she died." "Where are her sculptures?" "Did she make thousands?" "I still don't see the sculptures." "Where is she buried? I want to see that."

The kid would not shut up about it! We were rolling on the floor laughing because he just kept asking question after question. We finally made it up to the entrance to Huntington Beach and were passing Brookgreen Gardens and my uncle pointed out the statue in front telling him that it was one of the statues she had built. Well, then that started the, "where are the other ones, that was only one, I thought she built lots, I want to see them." This kid's thirst for information is insatiable! He is amazing!

We got back to GUD's house and had to load everything up so we could get on the road back to Charlotte....
