Family Movie Night
Last night we had our first "official" family movie night. While Marc and I were pondering what to do yesterday with the kids, we had the thought of taking them to see "Alvin and the Chipmunks the Squeakuel." Then we started looking up prices for movies. The earliest movie was at 1:00 (which really cuts close to their 2:00 nap time) and it was $5/ticket. Now that may not sound like a lot, but we are trying not to spend money on frivilous things anymore, so $25 to go to the movies when we aren't positive Emma will even sit through it, then $4 each for the kids snack/drink combo (cause really, you CAN'T go to the movies without getting popcorn and a drink), was really adding up to more than we really wanted to spend on a whim. So we decided to do a family night in and went to Blockbuster to rent movies. Emma picked a Max and Ruby, Mary Mac picked a Barbie princess (whatelse?), and Andrew got Alvin and the Chipmunks (the first one, cause we had actually never seen it). We got home and they watched Mary Mac's video before naps, then after naps, while we were getting dinner ready, she and Emma watched Max and Ruby. After dinner, we did baths, got into our pajamas and pulled out sleeping bags, pillows, and blankets, popped some popcorn, and settled in for the movie. It was really a lot of fun, and we all enjoyed being together. Emma lasted longer than I thought she would, she did get up several times to dance/run around, but she stayed with the rest of us through the entire movie. This may have to become a weekly/bi-weekly thing for us. Although, I don't think we'll get 3 movies next time, that was a lot of tv time for one day, maybe we'll rotate who picks the movie each time. And all of this for a grand total of $8 (cause Marc and I got a movie too).

How fun! So are movies only $2 at Blockbuster? We honestly haven't been to Blockbuster in like 5 years b/c of netflix, the library, and redbox. But we were just saying we wanted to revisit blockbuster. Glad to hear it's still affordable!
We love Family Movie nights at our house too! We did Alvin and The Chipmunks before Christmas and the kids loved it...Rylee, like Emma, had to dance and move around a litle bit, too! We rented Monsters vs. Aliens this past Friday and it was cute...Jack has probably watched it 10 times since we got it! :) Glad we're not the only ones that think going to the movies is quite expensive!
Family Movie nights are the best! We saw Alvin and the chipmunks..it was darling but well worth the wait when it comes to video. Pluse its hard to cuddle the kids in a movie seat. Love the smiles on their faces! Hugs. Melissa C
