Mary McLean has been sick the past couple of days. It started out with just a cough, but then yesterday she started running a fever and the cough got worse. She has a horrible hacking cough right now that keeps her from getting a good nap, or sleeping well at night. Poor thing has also had a few "accidents" from all the coughing at night and we've had to change the sheets a couple times. Today she was completely miserable. I tried to hold her as much as I could today between taking care of Emma and Campbell's wants and needs. She just wanted to lie on the couch and watch movies, but of course, she would ask for one and 15 minutes in, she would want another. All day she has been asking for Marc, "I want my daddy", "when is my daddy coming home?" "Where's daddy?" I called the pediatrician's office and made a sick appointment for her. Luckily Marc was able to take some time away from work and take her for me. They could only get her in at 2:30 and that coincided with when we had to pick Andrew up. As soon as we got Andrew from the bus stop, we headed to the dr's office to wait for her to finish so Marc could go back to work. We waited in the parking lot for a little over an hour, which leads into our "Oh Andrew" moment...
Since we had picked Andrew up straight from the bus stop and had not gone back home, he hadn't had his afternoon snack (he eats lunch at 10:45!). Burger King was right across from the office, so we went and got some chicken fries and french fries to share. Andrew ate about half the fries when Mary McLean finished up. She got in the car and of course wanted the fries. Since she hadn't eaten anything all day, I asked Andrew to give her the rest of the french fries. Of course this request was met with an arguement from Andrew. I explained that he had had more than enough fries, and had also had some chicken fries, and she had not eaten anything, so the least he could do was share the rest with her. As we are pulling out of the parking lot Mary McLean asked for her juice box, I passed it back to her and what followed went something like this:
MM: I can't eat this anymore.
Andrew: Well, give them to me, I'll take them.
MM: NO!!!
Me: Mary Mac, if you can't eat them, let Andrew have them back please.
MM: No, I don't want this.
Me: The juice box? You can't drink it anymore?
MM: No, I don't want it.
Andrew: Please Mary Mac, let me have just one more french fry.
MM: No, Andrew, they're mine.
Me: Andrew, you've had enough, let's leave her alone, she hasn't eaten anything today, she's hungry
Andrew: But she had breakfast!
Me: No, she didn't have any because she wasn't feeling well enough to eat anything.
(The car is quiet for a few minutes while he pouts)
Andrew: Mary Mac, what did the doctor say about eating?
MM: Ummm? No?
Andrew: Well, then give me the fries and I'll eat them for you.
Oh Andrew....I swear this child never gives up. Wheeling and dealing like his daddy, already!
Oh yeah, the dr gave her a px for some amoxocillan, hopefully she'll start feeling better in the next 24 hours...
